Listen to Podcast to Effectively Use Your Time in the Traffic

I used to read books on my kindle when I still took public transport to commute. Ever since my kindle broke, and today, as I’m mostly driving to office, reading a book during commute is no longer possible.

But I still have 2-3 hours every day in my commute. That is a lot of time of doing nothing, given the complexity to juggle between work, training and family. Plus, radio has become boring. There are too much ads, and too much sarcasm that, each time I listen to radio during my commute, I arrive at the office and feel drained.

So, in the last one month since I’m back to driving to commute, podcasts have been my savior. I started to listed to podcast since my kindle broke. Back then, I used earphone to listen to podcast from my iPod. I even invested in bluetooth earphone to make it easier to listen to podcast, without the hassle of cables running around my body and bag.

Listening to TED Radio Hour by NPR

Driving make it even easier and comfortable to listen to podcast. Each night I would check to make sure that enough podcast downloaded to my iPod via my home Wi-Fi. Then every morning, I just plug my iPod touch to the car’s head unit, and listen to the podcast without the hassle of cables running around me. After one month, I feel refreshed each time I arrive at my office.

If you are curious to start to listen to podcast during your commute, here is the list of podcast that I’m subscribed to:

  1. TED Radio Hour from NPR. The weekly podcast from NPR, as the name says, revolve around TED topics. They will choose several TED Talks of similar themes, then do additional interview with the speakers to elaborate the idea further. I feel that TED Radio Hour is more enjoyable and understandable compared to the TED Talks itself, where the conversation is one-sided.
  2. Rich Roll Podcast. Rich Roll talks about wellness and living, and sometime also about ultra endurance that human accomplish. I like his format of long conversation, and also able to relate some topics of ultra endurance. Lately however, I have been interested in wellness as well, and Rich Roll Podcast suit me well.

You can find all of the podcast channel above by searching in itunes, or some other major podcast network. If you happen to listen to podcast during your commute for sometime, I would also like to hear your favorite channel. Do leave them in the comment below.
