Babi Guling, or often translated as Suckling Pig, is a well known food in Bali. There are many restaurants to choose if, even if you are not staying in the main area. In this trip, we tried two Suckling Pig restaurants that is outside of main tourist area. They are Pande Egi in Gianyar and Men Sedu in Tabanan.
Babi Guling (Suckling Pig) Pande Egi, Gianyar
Suckling Pig Pande Egi is located near the Downtown of Gianyar city. It takes around 40 minutes by car from Ubud. Once you turn off the main road to the small road, you will find Pande Egi crowded with people.

This place captured the interest of many people coming to Bali after being visited by late Anthony Bourdain. Thankfully, although being famous, Pande Egi manages to upheld the taste and generous serving of Suckling Pig.

Babi Guling (Suckling Pig) Men Sedu, Tabanan
On the western part of Bali, in City of Tabanan, we found Suckling Pig Men Sedu. This one is not as famous as Pande Egi. Hence, we expected a more localized taste and spices, not something that is adapted for tourist. Looing at the patrons, we also see that most patron of Men Sedu is local.

The best part of Men Sedu is the view. After you place your order, walk to the back door to the raised platform. The platform is overlooking a hill, with tall trees lining up as far as the eyes can see. It was raining when we came. The slow cold breeze and the sound of trickling rain makes you feel like you want to spend the entire evening in this place
The Verdict
It is not necessary to compare both places. Both serve a fantastic plate of suckling pig. And both are located at different place on Bali island. Pande Egi in the East at Gianyar, and Men Sedu in the West at Tabanan. So you might choose whichever is closer to you.
But, if you really want to compare, I like Men Sedu more due to its more toned down, localized taste, and beautiful scenery. While Grace like Pande Egi more due to its generous service of the pork’s skin.
