If not for our mutual friends, I will never find where Vedic Kitchen is located. I only know that it is in Umalas. But despite going back and forth for so many time in the area, I never spot Vedic Kitchen. It turns out that, Vedic Kitchen is located in the part of Umalas that is far from the crowd. A perfect calm place for a Yoga Studio and Vegetarian restaurant, not too far from the center of Canggu.
There are not many tables inside, around 3-4 tables, thanks to social distancing required during COVID 19 pandemic. In one corner Yuli, the owner, was chatting with some friends. I said hi to them, and took my seat. The food in the menu soon catch my attention, a mix of Indian and Mediterranean dishes. Not long, I ordered Hummus, one of my favorite Mediterranean dishes. It come with bread, so no need to order extra.
I was told that one of the favorite menu of Vedic Kitchen is Samosa, Indian-style starters. I have tried one when Yuli brought some to our place. But, the one that is served in the restaurant itself, still hot from the fryer, will surely be better.
Not long after that, Yuli and her husband and another friend joined me. “We wanted this place to feel like home”, Yuli said. We had a hearty chat about Bali, Jakarta and Manado, about the pandemic, and many other things, over coffee and Mango Lassi.
Aside from dining in, Vedic Kitchen also provide daily food catering at a very reasonable price. They can be found in instagram @vedickitchen, including the daily menu for catering.
